- TankSide is a private, local-first aquarium tracker. Your data never leaves your device unless you opt in to iCloud sync or use AI features.
- We don't run analytics or third-party tracking SDKs.
- We don't sell, rent, or share your data.
- We don't ask you to create an account.
- The community uses a randomly generated anonymous handle.
Data we collect
Tank data (stays local + iCloud). Tanks, parameter readings, photos, journal entries, equipment, dosing schedules, fish stock, costs, named pets — everything you log — is stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. If you have iCloud enabled, this data mirrors privately to your Apple iCloud account. We don't see it.
Subscription transactions. If you purchase a subscription, Apple stores the transaction. TankSide reads the signed receipt (JWS) to verify your subscription. The JWS is sent to our Cloudflare Worker only when you use a Pro feature.
Photos sent to AI features (only when you tap). When you use AI photo diagnosis, AI test card scanner, AI fish identifier, or AI care assistant with a photo, the relevant image is uploaded to our Cloudflare Worker, which forwards it to Anthropic Claude for analysis. Neither the Worker nor Anthropic retains the photo or result for training or any other purpose.
Community posts. The community uses an immutable random handle generated on first launch (e.g., "CalmDiscus42"). We see the random handle but never your real identity, email, or device IMEI.
Anonymous random handle. A handle and an internal user UUID are generated once and stored on your device. They identify your community posts but are not tied to any real-world identifier.
Notifications. TankSide schedules local notifications for water changes, parameter tests, dosing, and equipment service. These are generated entirely on your device.
Camera and photo library. If you grant permission, TankSide uses photos to log them, send to AI features, or attach to journal/community posts.
Data we explicitly do not collect
- ❌ Analytics (no Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude, etc.)
- ❌ Crash reports (no Crashlytics)
- ❌ Advertising identifier (IDFA)
- ❌ Email, phone number, real name
- ❌ Location, contacts, calendar, microphone

Your rights
- Export your data: the share/PDF feature exports a full report for any tank.
- Delete your data: delete the app and disable iCloud sync.
- Reset your community handle: delete and re-install. A new random handle generates.
- Cancel your subscription: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → TankSide.
Children's privacy
TankSide is rated 4+ and contains no age-restricted content. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change anything, we'll bump the "Last updated" date and surface a notice in-app the next time you launch.

FAQ
Why is the AI feature behind a subscription?
Each AI photo analysis costs us money on Anthropic's end. The subscription covers those costs and supports development. Logging, charts, calculators, library, community, equipment, and dosing are all free.
How do I cancel?
iOS Settings → tap your name at top → Subscriptions → TankSide → Cancel.
I don't see my tanks on a new device.
v1.0 is local-only. iCloud sync is coming in v1.1.
Can I report a community post?
Reply with @report and a brief reason. We're working on a more formal moderation flow for v1.1.

TankSide is provided as-is. Aquarium care is your responsibility. Use the app's recommendations as guidance, not gospel. We do our best to be accurate, but the app is not a substitute for vet/aquatic biologist advice in serious cases.
